Exploring new places by bicycle is always exciting. A great place to take your cross, hybrid or gravel bike is Umstead Park in Raleigh. Trails are mostly wide, hard packed gravel with some singletrack sections and a good amount of hills to make it challenging. Trailheads are on both sides of the park accessible from Interstate 40 and US 70 for parking.
There are approximately 13 miles of multiuse trails that loop around three man-made lakes.
Minimal gear required, recommend a handlebar bag or rack with panniers to pack a lunch. Enjoy the beauty of this park with unexpected "art in the park" woodcarving.
