Gravel Ride Destination

Uwharrie National Forrest has 40 miles of multi-use gravel roads to explore by two wheels. Badin Lake Recreation Area is a popular area for hikers, OHV riders, horseback riders, bikers, fisherman, boaters, and campers.

Good launching points would be from Badin Lake Campground, Arrowhead Campground (camping areas have fees) or King’s Mountain Point Recreation Area (day use parking available, no fees).  You can disperse camp anywhere in the forest as long as there is NOT a No Camping Here sign.

I would recommend a gravel bike or mountain bike for gravel roads. The terrain is hard packed dirt with loose gravel and hilly with lots of potholes and can be dusty or muddy, depending on your conditions. It is easy to follow the roads for out and back routes or loops to get the mileage you want. Traffic was extremely light when we went, but may vary, depending on season.

The highlight was being able to launch ride and return to our lakeside campground. We enjoyed dinner outside and a beautiful sunset over the lake.
